Welcome to PT ALL LIFTING INDONESIA, a leading provider of on-site and in-house inspection services for lifting gear equipment. With nearly 40 years of experience in this industry, we offer comprehensive solutions for your lifting needs. Our base is in Batam, but we serve inspections for hire outside the city and also abroad.
For on-site inspection, we often conduct inspections on a remote island where industries that use lifting gear operate, and it’s not uncommon for us to be hired to conduct inspections in other countries.
Why is Lifting Gear Inspection Important?
1. Natural Equipment Degradation
Over time, your equipment and lifting gear will degrade and become somewhat outdated. With continuous use, you may begin to see and feel abrasions, corrosion, and performance deterioration, which is completely natural. Inspections are conducted to identify these issues before they become damaged.
2. Legal Requirements
Inspection is an international legal requirement! Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974; Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER); and secondly the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER); it is also required by Indonesian Law – Permenaker No. 8 of 2020 concerning Occupational Safety and Health of Lifting and Transporting Aircraft.
All the above regulations state that all lifting applications must be properly planned, involving the use of correct equipment that has been properly tested and inspected. LOLER states that all lifting equipment must be “safe for use, maintained in a safe condition and inspected to ensure it is correctly installed and does not subsequently deteriorate.”
Therefore, to ensure that you stay on the right side of the law, it is crucial to regularly inspect your Lifting Gear / Equipment.
The Importance of Regular Lifting Gear Inspection
By conducting regular lifting gear inspections, you can ensure that your lifting equipment remains in the best condition and complies with all relevant legal requirements. This will not only help ensure safety in the workplace, but can also help extend the life of your company’s lifting gear, save long-term costs and improve operational efficiency.
Given the high safety risks, lifting gear or lifting aids must undergo regular inspections and testing. This is also regulated by the government and international standards. The standards or references often used to determine the suitability of lifting gear / lifting aids are British Standard (BS) from England, ASME / ANSI standards from the United States, Australian Standard, and others.
Lifting Gear Testing
Lifting gear testing or lifting equipment testing is a process carried out to ensure that lifting equipment is functioning properly and is safe to use. This testing typically involves a series of tests designed to evaluate the performance and reliability of lifting equipment under various operational conditions. Some common testing methods we use include:
- Load Test: This involves placing a load on the lifting equipment to ensure that the equipment can handle the specified maximum load.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspection: This is a testing method used to inspect lifting equipment for damage or defects without damaging the equipment itself.
- Visual Inspection: This involves visually inspecting the lifting equipment to look for signs of damage or wear.
This testing is typically carried out by highly trained, experienced, and licensed technicians or inspectors, and the results are recorded in a test certificate indicating that the lifting equipment has been tested and meets certain safety and performance standards.
It’s important to note that not all lifting equipment requires routine testing as part of a comprehensive inspection – in fact, some load tests can cause damage to the lifting equipment.
Lifting and Rigging Certification
Lifting gear certification is a crucial process that ensures the lifting equipment meets certain safety and performance standards. This process typically involves a thorough inspection of the lifting equipment and its accessories, following the standard procedures of the industry using one or several methods, including visual inspection, functional inspection, wear measurement, and non-destructive testing (NDT) as well as load testing.
This certification is usually issued by a licensed inspector from a recognized professional organization or certification body, and indicates that the equipment has been tested and meets certain safety and performance standards. This certification is important as it helps ensure workplace safety and can assist companies in meeting legal and regulatory requirements.
